My Story
My story as a licensed finance coach started two years after I began teaching in Baltimore City Schools. At the time, I was living in an apartment and my rent was going up again. I was fed up and decided to begin my journey to home ownership. When I embarked on this journey, I quickly realized that I didn’t know what the heck I was doing! I attended First Time Home Buyers classes and seminars only for most of the information to ‘fly over head’. The language and terminology were foreign to me. I was too embarrassed to ask questions so I would Google information and question my friends and family. One of my cousins told me that since I was a first-time home buyer, I could pull money from my 401K and wouldn’t receive a penalty. I was super excited and made an appointment to talk to State Retirement to pull funds for my down payment. When I arrived, I received very disturbing news! I was told I couldn’t pull money from my 401K because I didn’t have one. I had a pension. I’d had enough!!! I needed to understand the rules of money. As a licensed finance coach for 12 years and absolutely LOVE what I do. I get to share the same concepts that changed my financial trajectory so other families can do the same—because here, we treat your finances like family.
